With advancements in synthetic textiles and increased public support for animal welfare, it's no wonder that the quality and availability of leather substitutes is expanding.
Microfiber leather is a modern innovation. It has a reputation for being long-lasting and having a realistic feel about it. The question where does microfiber fit in with real leather and other traditional options.
This blog was created to assist you in answering those questions. We looked at microfiber leather and the materials it's constructed of, then compared it to the competition.
How durable is microfiber leather?
Because it is constructed as if it were animal skin, microfiber is more durable than traditional synthetic layers. Traditional synthetics are simply sheets of material that have been spray painted to look like leather and then coated with polyurethane to protect the appearance.
Traditional synthetics are prone to damage. Microfiber leather is the highest-quality faux leather available today, with the strength of real leather. Microfiber leather of the highest quality has some advantages over real leather. It does not peel as easily and does not age as quickly.
Of course, the true answer is dependent on how well microfiber leather is cared for. If you don't properly clean it and abuse it, thinking it's indestructible, you'll quickly discover that you were mistaken.
Microfiber leather or real leather?
1. Microfiber leather is a high-quality synthetic leather that perfectly replicates real leather characteristics such as hand feeling, breathability, and moisture absorption, among others.
2. Microfiber outperforms genuine leather in terms of chemical and abrasion resistance, anti-crease, and ageing resistance, among other things.
3. Because genuine leather is made from animal skin, it has an unusual odour. If the levels of formaldehyde and heavy metals in the manufacturing process exceed the limits, the resulting real leather usually has a strong odour. The microfiber, on the other hand, is anti-odor.
4. Based on the distribution of quality on natural hide, the amount of usable leather is only about 60 to 80 percent. However, microfiber is not limited by this; it is produced in roll form, and its quality is very stable.
Microfibre leather or PU leather?
1. The price disparity. Ordinary PU is generally less expensive on the market than microfibre leather.
2. The surface layer's performance varies. Although the surface layers of both microfiber and ordinary PU are polyurethane resins, ordinary PU has been popular for many years, so it has many more colours and styles than microfiber. On the other hand, in general, the polyurethane resin of microfibre leather has better abrasion resistance, acid and alkali resistance, and hydrolysis resistance than ordinary PU, as well as better colour fastness and texture.
3. There is a difference in the base material. The base fabric in traditional PU is knitted, woven, or non-woven fabric, which is then coated with polyurethane resin. The microfiber leather has a three-dimensional structure made of microfiber nonwoven fabric, which is then coated with high-performance polyurethane resin.
4. Distinctive performance. Microfiber leather outperforms traditional PU in terms of abrasion resistance, moisture absorption, comfort, and other performance indicators, among other things.
5. Market potential. Because of excess capacity and a low technical threshold, competition in the ordinary PU market is fierce. On the other hand, due to the high technical threshold, limited capacity, and high performance, consumers are increasingly recognising microfiber, so there is a large market.
